Description
An Art Deco earthenware vase featuring a textured, mottled brown sandy finish to the body. The vessel is of ovoid form with a wide, flared rim and a circular foot, both finished in a dark navy glaze. The neck is decorated with a tubelined geometric band of green and white rectangular blocks containing central dots. The main body features a broad polychrome frieze comprising a stylised purple lotus flower flanked by blue blossoms and green leaves. The reverse side depicts a stylised hummingbird or magpie in flight, rendered in blue, green, and ochre glazes. A repeating pattern of blue and white triangles encircles the lower portion. The base shows a crackled white-glazed underside impressed with the numbers 1509 and a partial, illegible dark cursive mark.
