Lot 86:
Description
A religious art collection featuring a large modernistic wood relief of the Virgin Mary in prayer, hand-carved from a single light-toned timber block. The sculpture is defined by a stylized, flowing veil that creates a deep, smooth recess around the face, showing visible chisel marks and a satin finish. Accompanying this is a framed dark-stained oak relief plaque depicting the Black Madonna of Częstochowa (Our Lady of Częstochowa). The plaque is carved in traditional iconographic style with the Virgin and Christ Child wearing ornate robes and crowns. The top left corner of the wooden panel is incised with the characters 600-cie, commemorating the 600th anniversary of the icon. The lot further includes a vintage illustrated Bible with a brown leather-effect zipped case, two brass candlesticks, a small white-framed crucifix icon, and several small crosses in acrylic and ceramic finishes. One acrylic cross features a red rose motif and the text God Bless You Grandma. The Bible is open to an illustration of David pouring out the water from Bethlehem.
Height of Mary sculpture: 56 cm
Height of framed plaque: 37 cm.
