Description

A collection of five late 19th-century studio portrait photographs produced as albumen prints on carte de visite card mounts. The subjects comprise individual portraits of men and women in Victorian period dress. One mount features a purple oval ink stamp on the reverse for Edward Smith, Photographer, Bramble St., Derby. A second mount displays a green printed decorative logo on the reverse for W. Watson, Artist and Photographer, Union Road, Nottingham. A third mount is inscribed in pencil J. W. Woodall and bears the printed location Bulwell, Nottingham. Additional pencil inscriptions on the reverse of two cards read Booth? and Mrs Booth?. The collection includes various studio settings and poses typical of the era, including seated and bust-length portraits.


Condition report:

The photographs and mounts show toning and foxing consistent with age. Minor wear is present to the edges of the card mounts. Several cards exhibit visible adhesive tape residue and surface marks on both the front and reverse from previous mounting. One portrait of a woman, located in the bottom right of the group, is significantly faded.
