Description
A collection of antique metal stencils comprising individual large-format characters and composite word plates. The group includes zinc plates featuring the letters P, A, L, and N, alongside several rectangular brass plates with clipped corners. The brass plates are designed for technical, architectural, or engineering applications, featuring mirrored lettering for application. Transcribed text on the brass plates includes the phrases HORIZONTAL SCALE and TRANSVERSE SECTION, as well as sequences of the alphabet including J I K L M N O P and W V U T. Several plates exhibit heavy purple and black ink residue from historical use.
Condition report:
The collection shows evidence of significant industrial use. The brass plates are thin-gauge and several display bending, creasing, and minor distortions to the metal. Surface oxidation is present on the zinc plates. Heavy ink and paint residue is visible across the lettering of most items. Edges show expected wear consistent with age and functional use.
