Lot 195:
Description
A Chinese Polished Bronze vase of square-sectioned baluster form featuring a flared neck and foot. The four faces are decorated with incised designs including a phoenix (Fenghuang) set amidst stylised clouds and floral sprays, including chrysanthemums. The neck and foot are further embellished with floral motifs and geometric hatched borders. The shoulders are set with two small handles in the form of stylised animal masks. The underside of the base features an incised rectangular mark containing two characters, transcribed as 中華 (Zhonghua), translating to China. This mark is consistent with Chinese brassware produced for the export market during the mid-20th century.
Height: Approx. 19.5 cm.
Condition report:
The vase is in generally good condition with surface wear, minor scratches, and areas of tarnish consistent with age and use. There is white residue, likely from historic metal polish, present in the recessed areas of the engraving and around the base mark.
