Description

This lot comprises two adjustable hobbyist magnifying tools, commonly known as helping hands or third-hand tools, dating from the late 20th to early 21st century. These items were commonly sold in the United Kingdom for precision work such as soldering, model-making, and electronics repair. The first item is a Powerfix Profi multi-functional workstation featuring a magnifying glass, soldering iron holder, and adjustable clamps. It is constructed with a cast iron weighted base, steel and chrome-plated armature, and a plastic lens housing containing a glass magnifying lens. The primary lens includes an integrated secondary high-magnification inset. The base incorporates a spring-style soldering iron stand and a small tray. The magnifying head is designed for battery-operated integrated lighting. The second item is a City brand third-hand tool, stock number 8605, with barcode 5023596086055. It features a heavy cast iron base, nickel-plated adjustable arms and clamps, and a glass magnifying lens. The tool includes dual adjustable joints with wing-nut tensioners and two spring-loaded crocodile clips on a horizontal bar. The item is presented in its original plastic blister packaging.
