Lot 209:
Description
A mid-20th-century mechanical alarm clock manufactured by Veglia, a brand of the Italian firm Fratelli Borletti. The clock features a circular metal case with a nickel or chrome-plated finish, topped with a large bell housing and a circular carrying handle. The design, which follows the iconic peg leg style, is supported by two front peg feet and a fold-out metal stand to the reverse. The white dial is printed with bold black Arabic numerals, a railway minute track, and a secondary sub-dial for alarm adjustment located below the 12 o’clock position. The dial is signed VEGLIA and MADE IN ITALY. The reverse reveals a mechanical wind-up movement with integrated winding keys for time and alarm functions, alongside knurled setting knobs and a sliding alarm toggle. The backplate is stamped SET ALARM, MADE IN ITALY, and BORLETTI.
Overall Height: 18 cm
Case Diameter: 13.5 cm.
Condition report:
The metal case exhibits age-related wear including surface oxidation, tarnish, and minor scuffing to the plated finish. The dial shows minor localised foxing but remains legible. The mechanical movement is complete with all keys and knobs present; however, the clock is sold as untested for timekeeping accuracy and alarm functionality.
