Lot 219:
Description
A mid-20th century manual perpetual desk calendar featuring a rectangular brass-toned metal casing with a rounded top. The unit is mounted on a tiered, polished stone base, likely onyx or alabaster, displaying pink and beige veining. The front face contains three horizontal aperture windows that display the day of the week, the date, and the month. The internal scrolls are adjusted by six knurled metal knobs, with three positioned on either side of the casing. This style of desk accessory is frequently attributed to manufacturers such as Park Sherman. No maker marks or stamps are visible on the metalwork or the base.
Height: 11.5 cm.
Condition report:
The item is in fair condition, showing significant signs of age and use. The metal casing exhibits heavy pitting, oxidation, and substantial loss of the original finish, particularly on the upper surface and the reverse. The stone base displays minor surface abrasions and natural inclusions. The internal scrolls show yellowing consistent with age. The functionality of the manual scrolling mechanism has not been tested.
