Description
A carved wooden figure in the Asante style of Ghana, known as an akua’ba fertility figure. The item is carved from a single piece of wood with a dark, semi-lustrous finish. It features a large, flattened, disc-shaped head embellished with an incised and red-painted Gye Nyame Adinkra symbol. The face is carved with high-arched brows, a narrow nose, slit eyes, and a small mouth. The neck is ringed, leading to a torso with small breasts and outstretched, tapered arms. This example is depicted in a seated position on an integral base. The figure is decorated with beaded earrings of blue, yellow, and red beads on red thread, and a single strand of white beads around the waist.

Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition. Surface wear is present, including minor nicks and shallow scratches consistent with age and handling. There is fading and unevenness to the red paint on the head. Light dust accumulation is visible in the carved recesses. The beads and strings remain intact.
