Description

A late 19th-century French architectural mantel clock featuring a brass case with a combination of patinated and gilded finishes. The case is designed with a galleried top surmounted by a central urn finial and four smaller corner finials. The front is flanked by two fluted columns decorated with applied vine and leaf motifs, resting on a stepped plinth base with repeating leaf and beaded moulding. The dial comprises a circular white enamel chapter ring with black stylised Arabic numerals and an outer minute track, with the centre open to reveal a brass Brocot escapement. The dial is mounted within a rectangular brass panel heavily embossed with scrolling foliage and floral designs. It includes two winding apertures at the 4 and 8 o’clock positions and black ornate spade-style hands. The clock is powered by a mechanical twin-train movement housed behind a solid brass rear door.

Height: Approximately 49 cm.

Condition report:

The clock appears visually complete with no significant missing external components. The brass case shows signs of surface tarnish, oxidation, and wear consistent with age, particularly to the rear door and base. The enamel chapter ring appears free of major cracks or chips. The movement is untested and its working order is not guaranteed.
