Lot 235:
Description
This collection consists of approximately 50-60 vintage enamel lapel badges and pins, predominantly representing British trade unions, professional associations, and social clubs. The assembly features a wide array of organisations including the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE), UNISON, Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW), National Union of General and Municipal Workers (GMWU), National Union of Printing, Bookbinding and Paper Workers, National Society of Operative Printers and Assistants (NATSOPA), National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), and the National Union of Railwaymen (NUR). Social and sporting interests are represented by the Cardigan County Bowling Association, The Penylan Bowling Club, Ardagh Bowling Club, and Phear Park. Other notable inclusions are a Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) badge, a Suzuki logo pin, a school Prefect badge, and various railway-themed pins featuring locomotive designs. The items are primarily constructed from base metal with hard and soft enamel finishes. Accompanying handwritten labels attribute several pieces to prominent makers including Fattorini and Sons, Thomas Fattorini, and Bromfield Spark. One specific item, a National Union of Railwaymen 30-year membership badge, is noted in the accompanying documentation as being silver with Birmingham hallmarks for 1967. The majority of the collection is housed in individual plastic bags with collector’s identification notes.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall good to very good condition. Individual badges show varying degrees of age-related wear, such as minor surface scratches and light oxidation to the metal components. The enamel finishes remain largely intact and vibrant across the group. Many pieces have been well-preserved within individual protective bags.
