Lot 236:
Description
An assortment of sewing and needlework tools alongside decorative haberdashery and jewellery items, primarily dating from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The collection includes a large rug-making latch hook featuring a brass-toned metal shaft and a turned wooden handle. Also present are two buttonhooks, one with a turned wooden handle and a smaller example with a red plastic handle. Needlework implements include a slender crochet hook fashioned from bone or early celluloid and another with a turned cream-coloured handle. A novelty pin cushion is formed as a miniature silver-toned cast metal hat with a fabric insert. The lot further comprises several large steel safety-style kilt or blanket pins and a selection of decorative hat pins with pearlized, iridescent, and paste-set finials. Jewellery elements include an enamel brooch in the form of a bird or butterfly in shades of blue and yellow, a gold-toned element set with blue and amber-coloured paste stones, and a white cabochon in a filigree metal mount. A small silver-toned cast metal model of a tractor is also included. Materials consist of steel, brass-plated metal, wood, bone, celluloid, enamel, and base metal.
Condition report:
The items are in mixed condition. Visible surface oxidation and light rust are present on several steel components, including the large rug hook and various pins. The wooden handles exhibit wear and patination consistent with age and domestic use. The enamel on the brooch remains largely intact. All items are sold as seen.
