Description
A Victorian cast brass inkwell designed in the Renaissance Revival style. The object features a square hinged lid that opens to reveal a removable dark-toned ceramic liner. The body is ornamented with pierced scrollwork and grotesque mask motifs, supported by a wide, stepped base. The base terminates in four spreading bracket feet embellished with foliate designs. The piece is constructed from cast brass with a yellow-toned finish.

Condition report:
General surface wear and tarnish consistent with age and functional use. There is visible oxidation and dried ink residue to the underside of the lid and the interior well area. The ceramic liner is intact. The hinge is in working order.
