Description

This collection of eight decorative brass vessels comprises two ewers, five vases, and one bowl. The items are of traditional Indian or Indo-Persian form, constructed from cast brass with hand-chased and engraved floral and foliate decoration. The two ewers are of graduated size, featuring slender curved spouts, scroll handles, and hinged domed lids, resembling the dallah or coffee pot form. The five vases include three taller examples with flared rims and waisted necks, and two smaller globular pedestal vases. The bowl is of rounded form with a slightly flared rim. These pieces are characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century decorative production for the export market. No maker’s marks are visible on the exterior of the bodies.

Larger ewer: approximately 28 cm in height.

Tall vases: approximately 20 cm to 23 cm in height.

Small vases: approximately 13 cm to 15 cm in height.

Condition report:

The collection shows a varied patina, ranging from polished brass to dark oxidation. Visible signs of age and use include surface tarnishing, minor spots of verdigris, and general surface wear. The interior of the bowl shows heavy oxidation and residue to the centre.
