Description

An early-to-mid 20th-century costume jewellery brooch of oval form, designed in the Czech filigree style. The piece is centred with a large oval cabochon of mottled deep-blue glass intended to imitate lapis lazuli. The central stone is secured in a rim setting and is surrounded by a decorative border of alternating small, round-cut blue glass paste stones and openwork metal foliate motifs resembling the fleur-de-lis. The brooch is constructed from a non-precious base metal, likely brass or a copper-based alloy, with a darkened patina. The reverse features a simple pin with a tube-style hinge and C-clasp mechanism. No maker marks or purity hallmarks are present.

Condition report:

Fair to good vintage condition. The metalwork exhibits heavy tarnish and surface patina throughout. There is visible green oxidation (verdigris) on the reverse, specifically concentrated near the hinge and the inner rim of the stone setting. All glass stones are present and appear secure in their settings without significant chips or cracks. The pin and clasp are functional but show signs of age-related wear.
