Description
A George V sterling silver-mounted glass powder jar or trinket bowl produced by the silversmiths Arthur and John Zimmerman. The circular clear glass body is fitted with a plain, polished sterling silver rim. The detachable lid features a circular panel of tortoiseshell, finished with a silver border and a central mushroom-shaped finial. The finial is inset with a matching tortoiseshell cabochon. The silver rim bears a full set of English hallmarks including the maker mark A & J Z surmounted by a crown for Arthur and John Zimmerman, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter Z for 1924.
Condition report:
The item is in good condition with clear and well-struck hallmarks. The glass body shows no significant visible chips or cracks. The tortoiseshell panel is intact with natural variations in colour. Potential bidders should be aware that the tortoiseshell element may be subject to CITES regulations if intended for international export.
