Description

A collection of mid-20th-century automotive badges representing the Automobile Association (AA) and the Royal Automobile Club (RAC). The AA badges are designed with die-cast metal frames and coloured plastic or enamel backings. Included are several examples of the winged AA logo: one stamped 6A99491 with Property of the AA (Fanum House) London W.1 text; another stamped 6B11011; a further example stamped 6A45519 with the Fanum House property text and a rear mounting plate; an example with a weathered matte finish stamped 2007594; and a commemorative version with a yellow and red backing stamped 1945-1967. An additional AA badge features two mounting holes with an illegible serial number.

The RAC badge is a square format grille badge featuring a metal frame and a white insert. The design includes a red crown over blue RAC lettering, a stylised graphic of a hand holding a car, and the words Recovery Service in red. This badge is fitted to a substantial metal mounting bracket.

Standard automotive accessory dimensions.

Condition report:

The items exhibit varying degrees of vintage wear. Visible pitting, oxidation, and loss of lustre are present on the chrome-plated surfaces of the AA badges, with the matte-finished example showing significant weathering. The plastic backings show some fading and light surface scratches. The RAC badge mounting bracket shows surface rust, though the printed insert remains clear. Some badges are missing their original mounting hardware.
