Lot 13:
Description
A rectangular sheet metal notice sign, produced as a reproduction or souvenir piece, finished in blue with white printed lettering. The sign displays a historical company rule attributed to the Somerset & Dorset Railway. The header features the company name and Company Rule in a boxed surround. The body text reads: Enginemen are Forbidden to blow their Whistles or Drain Cocks whilst standing in the station, as this may frighten horses and alarm passengers. Furthermore, Leaking Cocks must be attended to. A fine of Sixpence for each Leaking Cock will be strictly enforced. The sign is dated 1864 at the lower left and includes the phrase By Order at the lower right. It features four pre-drilled mounting holes, one at each corner.
Condition report:
Good used condition. The surface shows visible scratches, scuffs, and minor pitting to the blue field and white lettering. There is light oxidation and wear around the mounting holes and edges. The reverse side shows consistent surface wear and scratching.
