Description

An early 20th-century carbide acetylene lamp manufactured by Joseph Lucas Ltd of Birmingham, designed for use on a bicycle or motorcycle. The lamp is constructed with an upper water reservoir and a lower calcium carbide chamber. It features a large circular front glass lens within a flared reflector and a faceted green glass jewel side lens. The rear is fitted with a spring-mounted bracket for vehicle attachment. The mounting bracket is stamped in three lines with Jos Lucas Ltd, Patented, and Birmingham. The lower section of the main body is stamped Joseph Lucas. The top surface of the water reservoir is stamped in a circular pattern with the words This Lamp Is Fully Protected By Letters Patent. The exterior appears to be nickel-plated.

Condition report:

The lamp is in good antique condition with an aged patina. There is visible surface wear, dulling to the nickel plating, and minor oxidation consistent with age and use. The glass components are intact and free from major cracks. The mounting mechanism is present and remains functional. The item is offered in as found condition and has not been tested for operation.
