Lot 15:
Description
A vintage mid-20th century car radiator or grille badge for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The badge is constructed from chrome-plated base metal featuring a shield design divided by a red enamelled cross of St. George. The four white enamelled quadrants contain relief-moulded symbols associated with veterinary medicine: a horse’s head in the upper left, a caduceus in the upper right, a horseshoe in the lower left, and a bull’s head in the lower right. A scroll at the base of the shield bears the embossed inscription ROYAL COLLEGE OF VETERINARY SURGEONS in capital letters. The badge features an integral mounting tab at the bottom with two circular apertures for attachment to a vehicle’s badge bar or grille. The reverse of the badge is plain and unpolished.
Height: approximately 120mm
Width: approximately 80mm.
Condition report:
The badge is in good vintage condition showing signs of age and service wear. There is visible pitting and loss of finish to the chrome plating on the raised metal edges. The red and white enamel is largely intact but displays minor surface scratching and some light staining to the white fields. The reverse side exhibits significant surface oxidation and tarnishing consistent with outdoor exposure on a vehicle. The mounting tab remains solid and intact.
