Lot 131:
Description
An assortment of cased flatware canteens and cutlery services, primarily of 20th-century English manufacture in the Sheffield style. The collection includes a large wooden canteen with a red velvet-lined interior, featuring knives with ornate silver-plated handles in a scrolling foliate pattern, fitted with stainless steel blades. The blades are marked with a crown symbol and the words STAINLESS STEEL. This set includes a matching carving fork and knife along with several loose spoons. A compact blue-lined case contains a set of knives and forks with cream-coloured composite handles and stainless steel blades. A third wooden canteen with a blue velvet interior holds composite-handled cutlery and a suite of silver-plated spoons with decorative terminals. The background contains two additional wooden canteens, one with a black-lined interior holding silver-plated handle knives, and another with light wood dividers containing a cream-handled service.
Condition report:
The sets are in good used condition overall. Minor surface scratches and tarnish are present on the metal surfaces commensurate with age and use. The wooden cases exhibit various degrees of external scuffing, wear, and some fading to the interior fabrics. The services appear largely complete, though they have not been individually counted or inventoried.
