Lot 140:
Description
An assortment of 20th-century draughtsman’s and engineer’s tools. The collection includes a British Thornton Mark Two slide rule in its original black cardboard box, with a label listing models AD 050, AD 060, AD 150, and AD 160. A stainless steel dial caliper is included, marked STAINLESS HARDENED on the lower beam and contained within a black textured case bearing a lot label numbered 140. The lot features a solid brass spirit level engraved with the text WARRANTED CORRECT. Several folding rules are present, including a yellow-coated example marked POLMAX and multiple boxwood and brass rules in the style of Stanley or Rabone. Other items include a yellow plastic slide rule marked UNIQUE, a slide rule in a brown stitched leather protective sleeve, and various wooden and plastic scales, rulers, and a blue plastic straightedge.
Condition report:
The collection is in a used, vintage condition. Metal elements, particularly the brass spirit level and rule hinges, show surface oxidation and patina consistent with age. Wooden rules exhibit wear to the edges and surfaces. The British Thornton box shows scuffing, edge wear, and some structural softening. The mechanical accuracy and calibration of the instruments, including the dial caliper and slide rules, have not been tested.
