Lot 155:
Description
A collection of vintage automotive grille badges representing various British motoring institutions and associations. The group features a Royal Automobile Club associate member badge with a circular central medallion in red and yellow enamel beneath a crown finial, with a mounting bracket marked for H.B. Sale Ltd of Birmingham. Included is a triangular Company of Veteran Motorists badge marking sixty years of membership, displaying the number sixty flanked by the letters V and M on a white ground with a crown motif. A blue enamel Royal Automobile Club badge shows the RAC monogram and is fitted with two mounting bolts to the reverse. Also present is a Rover Owners Association badge depicting the Viking longship logo with red sails against a black background under a transparent cover; the reverse is stamped for Teyadel London. The final item is an Institute of Advanced Motorists badge with a red and white design and a personalised nameplate engraved for S.D. Brooks B.E.M., embossed on the reverse with Property of I.A.M. and serial number 1126. The pieces are manufactured from chrome-plated base metals with enamel and plastic detailing.
Condition report:
The items exhibit varying degrees of age-related wear consistent with previous fitment to a vehicle. This includes surface pitting and oxidation to the chrome-plated finishes, most notable on the RAC associate and IAM badges. There are fine surface scratches to the enamel and plastic surfaces throughout. The Rover badge shows some internal discolouration behind the transparent cover. All pieces retain their original mounting brackets or integrated bolts.
