Description
A large-scale decorative cast brass model of a horse-drawn gypsy caravan, likely intended for use as a desktop cigarette or trinket box. The caravan body features a barrel-vaulted, hinged lid that opens to reveal a hollow interior compartment. The exterior panels are cast with decorative horizontal planking and ‘X’ cross-bracing. The vehicle is set upon four spoked wheels mounted to axles. It is drawn by a single cast brass harness horse depicted in a walking gait. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or signatures.
Overall length: approximately 35 – 38 cm.
Condition report:
The item is in good structural condition. The exterior exhibits a significant amount of white residue trapped within the recessed cast details, consistent with dried metal polish. There is visible surface pitting and oxidation to the interior floor and walls of the caravan. The brass displays a natural aged patina with areas of surface darkening and minor wear consistent with age and use.
