Description
This lot comprises two figural pincushions of varying materials and designs. The first item is a pincushion in the form of a ladies high-heeled lace-up shoe, constructed from cast white metal. The design features moulded details including stitching, eyelets, and a textured sole, and is fitted with a black string lace. It contains a dark-toned fabric cushion. The second item is a pincushion in the form of a swan, constructed from cast brass. The swan has a polished finish and is fitted with a purple velvet cushion. No maker marks or inscriptions are visible on the underside of either piece. These items are characteristic of 20th-century novelty domestic metalware.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit signs of age and use. The white metal shoe pincushion shows a matte patina with surface wear, minor pitting, and tarnishing; the fabric cushion remains intact with light wear. The brass swan pincushion displays surface scratches and areas of oxidation and tarnishing; the velvet cushion shows fading and wear.
