Description

A trio of Chinese porcelain snuff bottles, each featuring a vibrant yellow ground decorated with polychrome famille rose enamels. The collection comprises three distinct forms: a tall baluster bottle with a flared neck and foot, a flattened ovoid bottle with a flared foot, and a cylindrical bottle with a waisted neck. Both the baluster and cylindrical bottles are decorated with large peony blossoms in shades of pink, yellow, and orange amongst green foliage. The ovoid bottle is decorated with a motif from the hundred boys theme, depicting two young boys playing, with one child carrying a lantern on a pole. This bottle features a vertical four-character inscription in black ink reading 岁岁平安 (Suì suì píng’ān), which translates as peace and safety year after year. Small, stylized calligraphic inscriptions are also present on the shoulders of the other two bottles. Each vessel is fitted with a stopper featuring a metal collar; two stoppers are capped with a reddish-orange material resembling carnelian or glass, and the third features a pale celadon-coloured stone or glass cap. These bottles are rendered in the style of the late Qing Dynasty or Republic period.

Condition report:

The bottles appear to be in good overall condition. There are no obvious chips, cracks, or visible repairs to the porcelain bodies. All three stoppers are present and appear intact. There is minor surface wear and oxidation to the metal collars consistent with age.
