Lot 171:
Description
A pair of antique child’s or miniature traditional working clogs, likely of British origin and dating to the 19th century. The construction features dark leather uppers secured to hand-carved wooden soles by a row of decorative metal studs. Each shoe includes a single leather strap with a black button fastening. The uppers are further embellished with a scalloped and perforated leather overlay at the toe section. The underside of the wooden soles is reinforced with metal toe and heel irons, a characteristic feature of traditional industrial and rural footwear of the period designed to prevent wear on the wood. These items are visually consistent with examples found in British museum collections often associated with the textile-producing regions of Northern England.
Length: 10 cm approximately per shoe.
Condition report:
The pair shows signs of age-related wear throughout. The leather uppers exhibit surface creasing, minor scuffs, and a developed patina. The wooden soles have darkened and show typical scuffing. The metal studs and irons display significant oxidation and surface rust consistent with age. No major structural damage is observed, and the set remains complete.
