Description
A hallmarked silver and enamel nursing qualification badge from the General Infirmary at Leeds, UK. The obverse features a circular maroon enamel border with the white-lettered inscription GENERAL INFIRMARY AT LEEDS. Centred is a white enamel four-pointed cross over a dark, engine-turned background, upon which is a heraldic shield depicting elements from the arms of Leeds: a black chief with three white stars over a maroon field featuring a golden fleece. The reverse is engraved with the recipient name M. PARFREMENT and the years 1949-1952. The reverse is stamped with the maker mark F & S for Fattorini and Sons, followed by Birmingham hallmarks including an anchor and lion passant.
Condition report:
The badge is in good overall condition. The obverse enamel is largely intact with only light surface scratches. The silver on the reverse exhibits significant dark toning and oxidation. The original hinge and catch are present, but the pin is missing.
