Description
An assortment of various boxes and caskets of diverse forms and materials. The collection includes wooden examples such as a rectangular box with star-patterned parquetry inlay, a box with burr-veneer, a relief-carved box with foliate decoration, and a box with circular geometric metal inlay. Leather-clad items feature a black leather case and a dark brown leather jewellery box with gold-tooled borders. Metalware includes an embossed metal casket with figurative and foliate motifs and a small etched metal box. Further items comprise a red velvet-covered box with a brass swing handle and a miniature vintage-style car model. The items exhibit a variety of decorative techniques including inlay, carving, embossing, and gilding.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying degrees of age-related wear and surface marks consistent with use. Visible scuffs, scratches, and rubbing to the wooden and leather surfaces. Fraying and wear to the velvet covering. Tarnish and patina present on metal components. Some items show minor losses to veneer or inlay. Completeness of interiors and functionality of locks and hinges have not been tested.
