Description

This pair of ceramic saucers, dating to approximately 1870–1887, features a lobed, scalloped rim and is decorated in the traditional Imari palette. The decoration consists of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron-red enamels, and extensive gilding. The pattern is divided into panels featuring floral sprays, dense foliate scrollwork on a dark blue ground, and stylized white phoenix-like birds. Each saucer has a plain white central well. The reverse of each piece bears a printed mark in orange ink consisting of a crown symbol above the words DAVENPORT, LONGPORT, STAFFORDSHIRE. Additionally, there is a hand-painted pattern number 1924 followed by three dots in orange ink.

Condition report:

Both saucers appear to be in good overall condition. There is some minor, age-related rubbing to the gilding on the scalloped edges. A network of glaze crazing is visible on the reverse of both items, which is common for ceramics of this age and type. There are no visible chips, cracks, or signs of professional repair.
