Description
A vintage hand shuttle produced by Meccano Ltd. for use with their weaving loom sets. The item is constructed from nickel-plated steel and features a tapered, boat-shaped frame with a hollow centre. A central metal spindle is mounted within the frame and secured by a screw at one end. Stamped into the metal around this screw head are the manufacturer’s marks reading MECCANO and ENGLAND.
Length: 3.25 inches (8.3 cm).
Condition report:
The shuttle is in good vintage condition. The nickel-plated body displays minor surface scratches and wear consistent with age. There is visible surface oxidation and pitting on the central metal spindle. The securing screw is present and intact. The item is incomplete as it is missing the removable thread bobbin that would originally have been mounted on the spindle.
