Description

A cast brass door knocker featuring a stylised lion mask backplate. The backplate depicts a lion face with a prominent mane and animalistic features. It is fitted with a moulded, U-shaped swinging bail handle attached to pivots at the temples of the mask. The handle features a central ornamental knurl or grip. The object is produced using a casting process, with details visible in the mane and facial features. No maker marks, stamps, or inscriptions are visible on the front of the item. This type of decorative brass hardware was a common feature of British domestic architecture from the late Victorian era through the mid-20th century.

Condition report:

The item is in good used condition. It exhibits an aged patina with significant darkening and oxidation in the recessed areas, providing a high-contrast decorative effect. There is general surface wear, minor pitting, and evidence of previous polishing consistent with long-term outdoor exposure and functional use.
