Lot 27:
Description
This collection consists of thimbles featuring various avian designs, primarily owls. The pieces are decorated using the cloisonne technique, where fine metal wires create compartments filled with coloured vitreous enamels. The palette includes shades of cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow, and green. Three of the thimbles are shaped as owls with large, concentric-circle eyes, while the fourth depicts a bird with a prominent, pointed beak finished in a gold-tone metal. The tops of the thimbles are textured with a traditional pitted pattern for needlework. No manufacturer marks or country of origin stamps are visible. The workmanship and style are consistent with Chinese export cloisonne from the mid-to-late 20th century.
Condition report:
The thimbles are in good vintage condition. The enamel remains mostly intact with no visible major chips or cracking across the group. There is minor surface oxidation and tarnishing to the exposed metal areas, particularly on the interior surfaces and the dimpled tops. The structural integrity of the protruding beak on one thimble is sound.
