Lot 36:
Description
A collection of vintage framed artworks including a signed landscape oil painting and several decorative prints of varying subjects. The landscape painting, executed in oil on board, depicts a rural scene featuring a white-walled cottage with a thatched roof, two prominent poplar trees, and a hay rick under a clouded blue sky. It is signed ‘IGREIKE’ in the lower right corner and is housed in an ornate, heavy gilt-effect composite frame decorated with shell and scroll motifs. The print collection includes: a circular wooden frame constructed from staves in the manner of a barrel head, incised with the word ‘VESPERBROT’ and decorated with a painted hop leaf and cone, containing a print of a bearded man holding a tankard and vegetables; a reproduction print after Sir Thomas Lawrence’s ‘Master Lambton’ (The Red Boy), presented in an oval openwork cast metal frame with a brass-effect finish, attributed to Italian manufacture; a small devotional print titled ‘SAINT FRANCOIS DE SALES’ showing the cleric in choral dress, set in a simple black-stained wooden frame; an oval hand-tinted portrait of a young child in a scalloped black frame; and an oval print of a lady in Regency-style attire in a narrow gilt metal frame.
