Lot 4:
Description
This is a vintage manual tipping perpetual desk calendar, characteristic of the mid-20th century, approximately 1930s to 1950s. The item is constructed from a silver-toned metal, likely chrome-plated or a base metal alloy. The design features a central rectangular pivoting block held between two vertical supports with knurled knobs, all mounted on a flared rectangular pedestal base. The date is displayed through a small rectangular window in the pivoting block, which contains paper or cardstock inserts. The mechanism is operated by rotating the central block to flip the internal cards and advance the numerical date shown. There are recessed rectangular panels on the top of the base, but no legible maker marks, brand names, or country of origin stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The item is in worn vintage condition. There is significant surface tarnishing and wear to the metallic finish throughout. Notable green oxidation (verdigris) is present, particularly around the base and the pivot points. The paper date inserts show yellowing and foxing consistent with age. While the flipping mechanism appears to be intact and functional, it has not been tested through a full cycle of dates.
