Description
A collection of vintage and antique objects of vertu and personal accessories. Included is a vintage novelty musical powder compact by Symphony, designed in the form of a grand piano. The gilt-metal body features engine-turned sunburst and star patterns on the lid with a scrolled decorative border. It stands on three cabriole legs with a lyre-form pedal support. The interior reveals a secondary hinged lid covering the powder compartment, marked with a G-clef and Symphony script. An antique hardwood travel case, suitable for writing instruments such as nibs or pencils, features a sliding top panel and a small side-hinged door for accessory storage. A teardrop-shaped pill box in silver-toned white metal is decorated with repoussé and chased scrolling foliage, set with an oval green cabochon stone to the lid. Several sewing thimbles are present: one silver-toned with engraved floral motifs and an illegible mark, an antique white metal example with heavy wear and punctures, and a decorative example featuring a crushed turquoise-coloured ground with mother-of-pearl floral inlays.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying states of preservation. The piano compact is in generally good vintage condition with surface wear and tarnishing to the gilding; functionality of the musical movement is unverified. The wooden case is in distressed condition with significant scratches, surface grime, and notable losses and chipping to the edges and corners. The pill box shows surface tarnish and oxidation. The thimbles range from good condition to poor condition, with the antique example displaying heavy punctures and thinning.
