Lot 62:
Description
A diverse collection of Christian devotional items comprising various icons, crosses, and plaques. The group features several icons in different styles, including a large reproduction of a Madonna and Child scene on a wood panel displaying surface craquelure, a framed print of the Divine Mercy Jesus, and multiple smaller Eastern Orthodox-style icons of the Virgin and Child. The collection contains an array of crosses and crucifixes executed in carved wood, cast base metals, and porcelain decorated with floral accents. One specific cross is constructed from small seashells and bears a label reading STEGEN. Notable plaques include a cast relief of Albrecht Durer’s Praying Hands featuring the AD monogram, a blue velvet-covered plaque with a silver-toned Madonna figure and rose, and a small metal Lourdes souvenir shrine. Additional items include various small devotional medals, plaques, and a white marble-base plaque with a bronze-toned relief medal.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying degrees of age-related wear and handling throughout. The large wood panel icon exhibits significant surface craquelure and surface distress. Metal components show varying levels of tarnishing and surface oxidation. Frames and wood panels display minor scuffs, small chips to the edges, and accumulated surface dust. Porcelain crosses appear largely intact, though there may be minor losses to applied floral elements. The seashell cross shows general surface dust and handling wear.
