Lot 72:
Description
This lot comprises two mid-20th-century manual household items. The first is a box-style coffee grinder manufactured by C. August Lehnartz (C.A.L.) in Solingen, Germany. The grinder features a white painted wooden body with a turquoise trim and a matching drawer front for collecting grounds. The top section is constructed from nickel or chrome-plated metal, featuring a domed sliding hopper lid and a top-mounted crank handle with a wooden knob. The front of the wooden housing bears a label depicting a red rooster and is inscribed with C. AUGUST LEHNARTZ and C.A.L. The second item is a rotary desk pencil sharpener with a cast metal body finished in a gold-tone hammertone texture. It includes a tinted brown plastic shavings receptacle embossed with the name Mabish. The mechanism features a top-mounted spring-loaded pencil clamp and a rear-mounted hand crank with a metal handle.
Condition report:
Both items are in original, uncleaned condition and show signs of age and use. The coffee grinder exhibits surface dust and visible oxidation and pitting on the metal top and handle. The painted wooden body has minor scuffs and wear consistent with age. The pencil sharpener shows wear to the gold-tone finish and has internal residue within the shavings receptacle. Both mechanisms appear complete and functional, although they have not been tested for operational efficiency or grind quality.
