Description
A collection of six vintage and modern tape measures of various designs and materials. The group includes a John Rabone & Sons circular leather-cased tape measure, embossed with the maker mark RABONE & SONS BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND, featuring a brass winding handle and a brass pull-ring. Also included is a tan leather-cased tape measure embossed with the text BEST LEATHER CASE, with the central metal winding mechanism stamped 33FT and WESTERN GERMANY. Modern pieces comprise a 50-foot Stanley tape measure in a yellow plastic casing, marked 34-260, and a Draper tape measure in a blue and orange plastic casing, marked T305FG and 33 ft / 10 m. The collection further includes a black circular case embossed MADE IN CHINA and 33FT with a bird logo, and a small dark brown circular-cased tape measure with a brass hinge stamped 33FT and No. 2601.
Condition report:
The vintage leather-cased items show significant surface wear, scuffing, and patina consistent with age and industrial use. The modern plastic-cased Stanley and Draper measures appear in good functional condition. The internal winding mechanisms and the full length of the tape ribbons have not been tested.
