Description
A rectangular stained glass panel constructed with traditional lead cames and solder joints. The central composition features a hand-painted black bear rampant with a red tongue and claws on an orange-amber ground, a heraldic motif corresponding to the coat of arms of Bern, Switzerland. This central image is surrounded by geometric sections of ruby red and cobalt blue cathedral glass. A vertical border of light blue glass to the right side contains the kiln-fired hand-painted inscription Bernhard Wise. The orientation of the text indicates the panel is photographed from the reverse side. The piece is equipped with a metal hanging chain attached to the top corners.
Condition report:
The glass is in good structural condition with no visible cracks, chips, or breaks. The lead cames exhibit significant white oxidation and surface dulling throughout. There is an accumulation of dust and light surface grime across both sides of the glass.
