Description

This pair of equestrian spurs was manufactured by Maxwell of London, a prestigious British firm established in the 18th century known for high-quality bespoke boots and saddlery. The spurs are constructed from stainless steel and feature short, straight necks terminating in small, multi-point rowels. They are equipped with dark brown leather straps and wide, circular leather heel guards. The interior of the heel bands is stamped MAXWELL LONDON. The exterior of the bands, near the strap attachments, is marked S.S. and MADE IN ENGLAND. This specific pattern is highly consistent with spurs used by British mounted officers during the First World War period.

Condition report:

The stainless steel elements are in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor surface scratches and light tarnishing. The leather components show significant signs of age and wear; the leather is dry and brittle with extensive surface cracking throughout. One strap is partially detached or broken near the buckle attachment. The leather elements would require professional conservation or replacement if the spurs were to be used.
