Description
A collection comprising two tobacco smoking pipes and a coordinating wooden display stand. The stand is constructed from a stained hardwood, featuring a central turned pedestal that supports an upper tier with two stem notches, set upon an oval base with two circular bowl recesses. The first pipe is designed with a smooth-polished briar bowl showcasing a natural grain, paired with a black stem that features a single white dot inset. The shank bears faint stamped lettering, of which a capital letter D is partially legible. The second pipe is finished with a black rusticated texture to the bowl and a black stem, similarly marked with a single white dot. The design of the stand is characteristic of mid-20th-century tobacco accessories, in the style of those produced by Decatur Industries.
Condition report:
The items show signs of age and regular use. Both pipe bowls contain carbonised residue from smoking. The vulcanite stem of the rusticated pipe exhibits pronounced brownish-yellow oxidation towards the bit. The smooth pipe displays minor surface scuffs to the wood. The wooden stand is structurally sound with light surface wear and minor scuffing to the edges.
