Description
A musical carousel-style pipe stand constructed from turned light-toned wood. The circular stand features six slots for pipes arranged around a central support column and a recessed top section. The upper rim and base are decorated with hand-painted orange floral motifs and black scrollwork. The underside of the base is fitted with a metal winding key to operate an internal musical mechanism and rests on three wooden bun feet. Accompanying the stand is an assortment of smoking pipes in various shapes and finishes, including smooth and rusticated briar examples. One pipe shank is marked Excelsior over DE LUXE FINISH. The pipes are fitted with black vulcanite or acrylic stems. No maker marks are visible on the wooden stand itself.
Condition report:
The wooden stand shows signs of age and use, including minor surface scratches, wear to the varnish, and light fading to the hand-painted details. The musical mechanism is present but has not been tested for functional duration or tone. The collection of pipes shows visible wear, including carbon buildup within the bowls, surface oxidation and tooth chatter on the mouthpieces, and minor surface abrasions to the briar.
