Lot 161:
Description
A hand-thrown stoneware pitcher manufactured by Wick-Werke (Wick-Werke Fabrik für Steinzeugwaren) of Grenzhausen, Germany. The vessel is of globular form with a waisted neck, flared rim, integral pouring spout, and a stout D-shaped handle. It is finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze. The exterior is decorated with multiple horizontal bands of impressed patterns, including registers of concentric circles at the shoulder and base, wide bands of repeating zigzags, and a central band of stylized sunburst rosettes. The base retains its original purple and white paper label with the manufacturer’s logo consisting of a heart containing the letters WIK topped with a cross, along with the text Hand-gedreht and gemalt. An incised mark AM is also present on the underside of the base.
Condition report:
The pitcher is in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations. There is minor shelf wear to the unglazed orange-buff coloured foot rim.
