Description
A vintage marine bracket-mount compass manufactured by Silva in Sweden. The instrument features a liquid-filled, gimballed compass housing secured within a black moulded synthetic U-bracket, designed for adjustable viewing angles and permanent bulkhead or console mounting. The black dial is graduated from 0 to 360 degrees with white markings and includes cardinal and intercardinal points. The dial face is inscribed SILVA and MADE IN SWEDEN, with the model designation LB 37. The unit is accompanied by original Suunto marine compass expanded polystyrene packaging, a multi-language Suunto instruction manual for models U-90, F-90, D-90, DU-90, C-90, and CU-90, and a paper mounting template for model U/F-90. The manual contains handwritten ink annotations including the date 27th Oct 88 and numerical codes 132939 and 732939.
Condition report:
The compass appears in good vintage condition. The clear acrylic dome maintains high optical clarity with no significant clouding. The gimbal mechanism moves freely. The liquid-filled chamber remains intact with no large bubbles present. The original expanded polystyrene box shows surface wear, staining, and age-related discolouration but remains structurally sound. The instruction manual and template are complete but show some handling wear and handwritten notes.
