Lot 187:
Description
A large, elongated decorative object hand-carved from a single piece of light-coloured wood, shaped to resemble a tusk. The surface features high relief carvings of four African animals arranged in a vertical sequence: a rhinoceros at the base, followed by a Cape buffalo, a leopard with incised circular spot detailing, and an elephant at the top. The object is spindle-shaped, tapering to a smooth point at both ends. The natural wood grain is visible beneath a polished finish. There are no maker marks or signatures present.
Length: Approximately 20 inches (51 cm).
Condition report:
The carving is in good overall condition with minor surface abrasions and light wear consistent with age. There are natural variations and small drying fissures inherent to the wood grain. Some residual tool marks and slightly rough textures are visible within the deeply carved recesses.
