Description
A large-scale carved wooden model of a Maori waka taua or war canoe. The vessel features a pierced openwork tauihu (prow) and a tall taurapa (stern post), both decorated with traditional carvings including stylized figures and spiral patterns. The hull is embellished with geometric relief carvings along the gunwales and numerous circular iridescent shell inlays. A series of wooden thwarts are lashed across the top of the hull using natural fibre cord. The model is mounted on an integral rectangular wooden base with matching carved details to the edges. The construction uses dark-stained wood, resembling acacia or monkeypod. No maker marks or signatures are visible.

Condition report:
The item is in generally good condition with minor surface wear and light dust. A small plastic bag containing loose components is located within the hull. All carved sections appear intact.
