Description
A three piece carving set manufactured by Lockwood Brothers Limited of Sheffield, England. The set comprises a carving knife, a carving fork fitted with a hinged safety guard, and a sharpening steel. Each piece is constructed with a natural stag horn handle, finished with decorative embossed white metal ferrules and end caps. The interior silk lining of the lid is gilt-stamped with the company trademark, featuring an ostrich logo and the brand name Pampa. The literal transcription of the mark reads: LOCKWOOD BROTHERS LIMITED TRADE MARK PAMPA SHEFFIELD. The steel knife blade is etched with the maker’s mark, although it has become faint. The set is housed in its original fitted presentation case with a green silk and velvet lining.
Condition report:
The steel blades and components exhibit characteristic surface oxidation, staining, and light pitting consistent with age and use. The stag horn handles remain well-preserved and intact. The original fitted case shows external scuffing, wear to the edges, and some staining and discolouration to the interior silk lining.
