Description
A pair of vintage ice skates in the style of traditional Dutch Friese Doorlopers, featuring carved wooden platforms with distinctive upswept toes. The skates are constructed with straight steel blades secured to the wooden bodies via metal rivets. They are equipped with adjustable leather heel and toe straps fitted with metal buckles. Attached to the straps are long, woven textile laces featuring a repeating linear pattern in orange, red, and white. The underside of one wooden platform contains a circular metal inlay and a stamped maker mark that is not clearly legible. These skates represent a traditional design used for distance skating on frozen canals and ponds.
Measurements: A measuring tape is visible in the images showing centimetres, though the skates are not aligned to provide a precise end-to-end dimension.
Condition report:
The skates exhibit signs of significant age and historical use. The wooden platforms show surface wear, scuffs, and scratches throughout. The steel blades display widespread oxidation, surface rust, and tarnishing. The leather components show signs of drying and cracking, particularly at the flex points and around the buckle holes. The textile laces have some fraying and general soiling consistent with outdoor use.
