Description
A shaped metal intaglio printing plate, likely crafted from copper or a similar copper-based alloy. The plate is cut into the silhouette of a Soldier. The figure is rendered with sharp, angular lines and features a prominent triangular void in the lower section. The printing surface employs a combination of etching and engraving techniques to create varied textures and recessed areas intended to hold ink. As a shaped plate, the physical edge of the metal defines the boundary of the printed image on paper, rather than a traditional rectangular plate mark. The reverse of the plate shows general handling wear, oxidation, and light surface scratches. No artist signatures, dates, or foundry marks are visible on either side of the object.
